The problem with social media

Imagine going to a tranquil lake where there are very few people and just mother nature. You see a women taking selfie and posting them online using the hashtag #lakeadventures. A couple weeks later, you go to the exact same lake to see it crowded and there is trash everywhere. You are puzzled about what could have happened so fast. As you are thinking, you realize that the woman who was taking selfies geotagged the location so everyone would know where to go. This is a very common problem that is occurring around the world and is attracting many people’s attention. I think that social media has ruined nature and needs to be limited. With social media, nature has changed because valuable animals are slowly dying because of the unnatural amount of people in their habitats. Social media also causes a lot of pollution. When many people come to witness the natural sights for themselves, they bring a lot of trash and carelessly dump it on precious sights.

Social media has changed the way we perceive nature. It has taken the pleasure that nature once had for us. With social media, humans don’t feel nature for themselves, as they have viewed many pictures and videos online. Social media has also ruined nature because everyone feels the need to post about what they are doing in the wild. That makes them apathetic about the beauty and discovery nature has to offer. Many people only go out in nature to be like everyone else because they want to copy them and use the same hashtags. That causes havoc and conflict between humans and the local animals. We need to limit the impact social media has on nature and enjoy the beauty while we have it.

Social media can change people’s viewpoints on many topics, but nature is one of the one main ones. Nature is a very broad topic that can have many different opinions and viewpoints. People on social media can change what people think about different plants, animals, etc. For example, if a teenager wants to buy a lavender for their house. On social media they see that all their friends are getting other flowers and are throwing away lavenders. This can easily change their opinion on that specific flower and could potentially make life threatening decisions. Social media can easily change people’s opinions online about nature, and that needs to stop.

Around the world people have social media and it affects millions of people every day. Nowadays, nature has had a massive appearance on social media as people are taking pictures and tagging places where they go in the great outdoors. This has led to pollution and overpopulation which causes unrest within the animals. Entire habitats are being destroyed because of geo tagging and hashtags. We need to care about our nature because it is all that we have left.
